Additional Description: The 1921 Silver Morgan Dollar holds a unique place in American numismatics as the final year of the iconic Morgan series and the only year it was minted alongside the newly introduced Peace Dollar. After a two-decade hiatus, the Morgan design was briefly revived in response to the Pittman Act, which required the melting and recoining of large quantities of silver. Struck in .900 fine silver at the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco Mints, the 1921 Morgan Dollar features George T. Morgan’s original design, Liberty’s profile adorned with a Phrygian cap and agricultural motifs on the obverse, and a majestic eagle clutching arrows and an olive branch on the reverse.
The 1922 Peace Dollar stands as a hallmark of post-World War I American coinage, embodying the nation’s hopes for peace and renewal. Struck in .900 fine silver, this issue was the first Peace Dollar minted after the high-relief 1921 debut, featuring a lowered relief design that allowed for more efficient production and greater durability in circulation. Anthony de Francisci’s allegorical Liberty, crowned with rays, graces the obverse, while the reverse depicts a resting eagle clutching an olive branch atop a rock inscribed with “PEACE.” Produced in large quantities at the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco Mints, the 1922 Peace Dollar quickly became a common sight in everyday transactions throughout the Roaring Twenties.
