The bust depicts a young woman with her head gently inclined, long flowing hair, a floral ornament at the crown, and a naturalistic arrangement of leaves and flowers surrounding the lower torso. The composition reflects the floral, feminine, and organic vocabulary associated with late-19th century Art Nouveau decorative sculpture.
The sculpture is made from Hennecke’s proprietary “Florentine Statuary” composition, a molded material the company marketed as an imitation of Florentine terra cotta and finished in a variety of decorative treatments. This example retains its original polychrome surface with flesh tones, brown hair, green foliage, and muted floral coloration.
The reverse bears the original applied metal maker’s plaque reading “COPYRIGHT / C. HENNECKE CO.”, confirming manufacture by the Milwaukee firm.
