Condition: Light scratches, minor finish wear, and age related patina to the brass hardware. Interior dividers and compartments are intact. Hinges and closure hardware are present. Retains its original “Made in Hong Kong” label.
Additional Information: Vintage Hong Kong Chinese export hardwood storage box of rectangular form, constructed with a richly figured reddish brown hardwood exterior and fitted compartmented interior.
The hinged lid features a relived central panel carved with a circular Chinese longevity inspired motif, surrounded by molded and mitered framing. The box is fitted with decorative engraved brass hinges and a traditional-style brass clasp.
The interior is divided into numerous fitted compartments of varying sizes, including a series of small rectangular cells and several larger elongated sections intended for the organized storage of small objects. The exact original purpose is unspecified; the configuration would have been suitable for seals, jewelry, desk accessories, collectibles, or other small valuables.
A well preserved example of mid century Hong Kong Chinese export decorative woodwork retaining its fitted interior, brass hardware, and country of origin label.
