Medium: Oil on board

Origin: United States, mid 20th century

Dimensions: Approx. 14 1/2 × 11 in. artwork, per gallery label

Additional Information: Original mid 20th century American figurative painting by Joseph De Martini, titled Barbershop. The work depicts an expressive barbershop interior scene with two prominent figures in the foreground and loosely rendered figure studies along the rear wall. De Martini’s characteristically simplified forms, muted palette, and heavily worked surface give the composition a distinctly modernist quality.

The reverse retains a Berta Walker Gallery label from Provincetown, Massachusetts, identifying the work as Barbershop (#227), oil on board, measuring approximately 14 1/2 × 11 inches.

Joseph De Martini was an established American modernist painter associated with both New York and New England. His work was exhibited extensively during the mid 20th century and is represented in major institutional collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, and Smithsonian American Art Museum.

Presented in a simple period style frame with gallery documentation remaining on the reverse.
