A Rare Piece of Early John Wayne History

Vintage large format photographic negative depicting John Wayne and Marguerite Churchill in a publicity image for Fox Film Corporation’s landmark 1930 western: The Big Trail, John Wayne’s first starring feature.

The image bears the embedded signature of Hollywood still photographer Max Munn Autrey at the lower left and the Fox production/still identifier Wal-26-A11 at the lower right. The same publicity image has been independently documented as a Fox Film publicity photograph by Max Munn Autrey. 

Unlike modern reproductions or printed transparencies, this piece is an actual photographic negative with a genuine photographic emulsion on a transparent film base. The image retains its original clear border and studio production markings.

This listing is offered as a vintage Fox studio/archive photographic negative. While the image, photographer attribution, and Fox production code are supported by documented examples, the exact generation of the negative (original camera negative versus period studio duplicate) cannot be authenticated.
