About this lot

Country of Origin: China

Period: 20th Century

Medium: Foliage: Carved Green Hardstone. Flowers: Carnelian, Agate, Quartz Or Related Hardstones, Unconfirmed. Branches: Metal Armature With Wrapped Covering.

Dimensions: Approx. 12 x 9 x 5.5 in.

Condition: No major visible flaws. Possible minimal chips cracks and scratches or missing leaves.

Additional Information: Vintage Chinese decorative floral sculpture composed of individually carved and polished semi-precious stone blossoms, translucent green stone leaves, and wire-wrapped stems.

The arrangement incorporates large translucent flowers in pale white or pinkish stone, together with contrasting amber-orange petals consistent with carnelian or agate. The green leaves are carved from translucent green hardstone consistent with jade, serpentine, or bowenite.

The centers of the flowers are formed from clusters of small yellow and orange bead-like elements attached to fine wire coils. The branches are constructed from heavier metal wire wrapped in brown textile or resinous material to simulate natural branches.

This type of gemstone floral sculpture represents a traditional Chinese decorative art form in which carved semi-precious stones are assembled into miniature flowering arrangements. The original mounting or container is not present with this arrangement.
