About this lot
Country of Origin: China
Medium: Carved Red Lacquer, Cinnabar Style
Dimensions: Approx. 4.5 x 4.5 x 8 in.
Condition: Minimal cracks and scratches.
Additional Information: The body is extensively carved with stylized bird figures surrounded by scrolling ornament and geometric key-fret or leiwen patterns. The relief decoration is executed over a densely patterned ground, creating pronounced depth throughout the surface. The three legs incorporate dragon-like or mythical beast figures at their upper sections, serving as decorative supports beneath the vessel.
The lid cover features additional carved scrollwork and geometric borders, with a prominent finial completing the form. The vessel is presented on a fitted dark carved wooden display stand shaped to accommodate the three feet.
The construction and highly uniform relief carving are consistent with Chinese cinnabar lacquer production of the 20th century. The term cinnabar refers to the traditional red lacquer coloration associated with cinnabar pigment.
